apud Suet. Domit. c. 12. Praeter ceteros Iudaicus fiscus acerbissime actus est: nomen tributi, a Iudaeis pendi soliti. Quod enim in artibus sordidis et vetitis factitatum est, ut pretio depenso perm itteretur illarum professio: id in religione Iudaica quoque iam tum Romae obtinuit, cuius professionem liberam in urbe red imere tenebantur Iudaei. Unde Tertulliam. Apolog. Sacras literas Iudaei palam lectitant, vectigalis libertas vulgo aditur Sabbathis omnibus. Didrachmum illud fuisse, docet in Vesp. Xiphilin. ἀπ᾿ ἐκείνου δίδραχμον ἐτάχθη τοὺς τὰ πάτρια αὐτῶ ἔθη περιςέλλοντας τῷ Καπιτωλίνῳ Διῒ κατ᾿ ἔτος ἀποφέρειν. Neque vero ii solum, qui libere suam Sectam profitebantur, huic pensitationi fuêre obnoxii, sed et in illos severe inquisitum, qui, gentis cum essent, eam dissim ulaverant.
